I firmly believe pieces of media can change our outlook and direction in life, because I do think of said pieces during tough times to keep striving forward.
I wanted to list them all out with references so that I can one day look back, decades from now.
Instead of making this a definitive list, I’d like to keep this as a running notes of sort.
So, here’s a bunch of things (that you can catch me thinking about randomly with a higher probability):
And yes, please treat this as a disclaimer for “spoilers” to pieces of media included!
1. Hunter X Hunter (2011) – Gon’s inner monologue when trying to confront Kite
Short but deeply touching inner monologue delivered with grace and importance by Gon’s incredible Voice Actor (Megumi Han 🙌🏻).
It’s not only the delivery, but the incredible sound design in this episode and solemn score making this one of the most impactful episodes of the series. Just brilliant.
2. Hunter X Hunter (2011) – Gon almost unleashes his rage on Morel
Specifically, Yoshihisa Hirano’s iconic “Hashire!” soundtrack paired with the imagery of Gon’s Rage at the 1:36 - 1:40 second mark in the linked video.
I try to take it a force of nature, not avoiding but helping me take perpective on life when things tend to go ballistic and out of hand. As a occasional/amateur cinephile and admirer of good sound tracks in great pieces of media, This scene haunts me till this day. Beautiful, Sad, Powerful.
